Contributors to a forthcoming Special Issue of the Canadian Journal of Program Evaluation will discuss spending reviews at the national or provincial/state level. These have become an important way to assess current and future policy and program priorities. There is an increasing demand to systematically assess and ration government expenditures in a time of chronic scarcity of resources and growing demands for government programs. With a backdrop of the 2008 recession and uncertainty about global political and economic prospects, governments implement program evaluation and performance measurement to produce information for program improvement and accountability-related uses. Panelists will discuss whether and in what ways linkages can exist or be developed between evaluations and spending reviews. Details attached.
