WE ENCOURAGE ANYONE WHO SELF-IDENTIFIES AS A NEW AND/OR EMERGING EVALUATOR TO COME TAKE PART IN THIS EVENT

  • Students, recent graduates, and people transitioning to evaluation from another field
  • With less than five years' professional evaluation experience
  • Who identify as new or emerging evaluators

Logic models are commonly used by evaluators to illustrate relationships among a program’s inputs, activities, outputs, and outcomes. They are useful in helping intended users develop programs, communicate a program’s theory of change, and design evaluations. However, as static documents, logic models are not well suited for exploring implications of the dynamic situations of programs embedded in changing organizational, cultural, social, and political landscapes. Challenged by this inadequacy of static logic models to convey the dynamic nature of complex programs, a program evaluator turned to a graphic designer and a software developer for help. Together, this interdisciplinary group created web-based software called Dylomo (short for DYnamic, LOgic MOdels) that applies interactivity and design principles to logic models, allowing evaluators to create logic models that better fit the complex, dynamic nature of programs.

In this interactive session, we will review some logic model basics – including what they are and how they can be used – and then will try out using this new software program to build and present logic models.

M. Elizabeth Snow, PhD, MBA, CE is the Head of Program Evaluation at the Centre for Health Evaluation & Outcome Sciences (CHÉOS) and the Program Evaluation Lead of the Clinical and Systems Transformation project in Vancouver. She is also a member-at-large on the CES BC & Yukon Chapter Executive Council.

Participants need to bring a laptop that is capable of connecting to Wi-Fi.

If you have a logic model that you are working with, you can bring that too, but it isn’t required, as we’ll have samples that you can use.

Dylomo is free web-based software, so attendees will be able to apply what they learn in their own evaluation practice after the session.
