Building on the success of last year, the Pro Bono Evaluation Initiative, now rebranded as the Evaluation Matching Service, is now accepting applications. Are you a new or emerging evaluator looking for hands-on evaluation experience? Are you an experienced evaluator looking to share your knowledge with others? Are you in need of evaluation support to help your program move forward? The Evaluation Matching Service may be just the thing for you. To learn more about this or to apply, see below.

About the Initiative

The BC Chapter of the Canadian Evaluation Society is offering a pro bono evaluation service in order to:

  • Provide evaluators new to the field with an opportunity to gain hands-on experience, learn from experienced evaluators, and connect with organizations
  • Allow experienced evaluators to give back to the field by mentoring colleagues
  • Enable organizations with limited evaluation expertise or resources to undertake evaluations in a cost-effective way

How it Works

Organizations with evaluation needs will be paired with two to three new or emerging evaluators (the volunteer evaluators). The volunteer evaluators will need to have completed at least one evaluation course, have one year or less of evaluation experience, and be a CES member. The volunteer evaluators will be supported by experienced evaluators (the volunteer coach). Coaches should have 5 years or more of evaluation experience and be a CES member.

How to Become Involved

Application Process is now closed for 2019

The Matching Process

Once applications have closed, a list of opportunities will be posted in the BC CES website. Evaluators and coaches can review the list and select projects of interest. In the event that interest in a particular project exceeds the needs of the project, random selection will be used to select coaches or evaluators.

A letter of agreement will be signed by all parties outlining the roles and responsibilities of each party and indemnifying CESBC and the volunteer coach. The organization, volunteer evaluators, and the volunteer coach will then work together to develop a statement of work that outlines the scope of work, tasks for each party, and timelines for completion of the work. The statement of work will be signed by all parties and will serve as the contract/work plan for the work.

The evaluators and the coach will be considered volunteers for the organization for all intents and purposes and will be subject to the rights and protections granted to volunteers of the organization. In the event that any of the parties are not satisfied with the work, the engagement can be terminated. All parties will be asked to complete a short survey on their experience at the end of the engagement to assist CESBC in evaluating the initiative.
